The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a temporary job opening for a Camp Junior Music Instructor (Music Conservatory) for Camp Grandview located in Jasper, Georgia.
Job Summary Supports and coordinates the functions of the Conservatory Music program; ensures the quality of programs and safety of youth at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to youth and ensures safety and a positive experience for campers.
Essential Functions Assists the work of music instruction in helping children and youth to succeed in school by increasing their involvement and motivation; and helping them to set personal goals.
Assists in training and development of camper for music instruction.
Assists with appropriate lessons for instruction time.
Reviews assigned homework with students and re-teach skills if necessary.
Assists students for recitals and presentations.
Assists with the maintenance and daily operations of the program equipment.
Maintains discipline and acceptable behaviors of students, which will create an atmosphere of friendliness and security during all program periods.
Supervises and assists with an assigned group of campers during scheduled and unscheduled blocks of time in cooperation with camp rules and regulations.
Promotes and stimulates participation of campers to ensure a pleasant camp experience.
Participates and assists in various classes as assigned.
Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
Sits with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed.
Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection.
Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Perform as necessary ministry functions such as presenting approved devotional material to campers, praying with campers, or leading in Christian songs, etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge and ability to teach music in a group setting.
Ability to foster teamwork with youth in learning how to develop musical skills for performances.
Ability to assist youth in planning and goal setting for personal and team activities.
Ability to work with diverse people from all social and economic backgrounds.
Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
Education and Experience Six months experience teaching music, with the ability to perform and teach lessons in a classroom setting involving more than one student preferred, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses/Certifications CPR and First Aid Certified Physical Requirements/Working Conditions Some physical requirements of the Camp Music Instructor position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate equipment and activities are required.
Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available.
Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.
Additional Information Camp Staff Orientation will be held June 7-11, 2023, and participation is required.
The 2023 Summer Camp program will be held June 12 – July 15, 2023.
