Title: CLSCC System Administration Specialist Employee Classification: Clerical & Secretarial Institution: System Office Department: Information Technology Campus Location: Tennessee Board of Regents System Office Job Summary Responsible for the routine support of IT servers and appliances utilized enterprise wide, assisting with monitoring security and bandwidth management, and server hardware and software installation and setup.
This position works closely with other Information Systems staff in ensuring that all mission critical systems and services are operational and accessible and will work with end users in troubleshooting issues related to these systems and services.
Additionally working with campus networking personal support telephony and telephony related infrastructure.
This position is located at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee, as the primary workplace.
Frequent travel to off-campus instructional sites within the College’s five-county service area is required.
Travel may be needed to attend meetings, training or conferences as deemed necessary.
Job Duties 25% - Install server/appliance software, apply patches, manage file systems, monitor performance and troubleshoot alerts from commercial, open source and locally developed monitoring tools.
- (Essential) 15% - Assist with the deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of desktop/laptop PCs, edge networking infrastructure and devices such as hubs, routers, wireless access points, printers, hardwired ports, Cat 5/6 & fiber optic installations, special purpose appliances as might be used for firewalls, VPN, security, DNS.
- (Essential) 10% - Backup/restore systems and files, provision accounts, password maintenance, and end user support of servers.
- (Essential) 10% - Hardware/software configuration; and management.
- (Essential) 5% - Detect and facilitate restoration of server/appliance failure and triage mission critical outages; insuring the consistency and integrity of file systems.
- (Essential) 5% - Assist with security concerns related to current exploits, threats, patches, work-arounds, etc.
- (Essential) 5% - Help implement IT policies and procedures.
- (Marginal) 10% - Provide support to end user as needed with server issues, laptop/desktop set-up, upgrades, connections to peripherals, troubleshooting, special configurations, installation of new software or hardware, etc.
- (Essential) 10% - Log and track trouble tickets; document problems/resolutions and configurations.
- (Essential) 5% - Other related duties as required.
- (Marginal) Minimum Qualifications • Associate’s degree in a relevant discipline with 2-3 years of job related experience preferred, but will consider extensive experience in lieu of degree.
• Experience with Microsoft Products such as Azure Architecture, Azure AD, Intune, and/or MDM.
• Experience with basic server administration and technical support of Linux and Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and cloud collaboration services such as O365 and Goggle Workspace.
• An understanding of WAN and LAN network protocols and principles including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and WINS.
• Working in a mixed hardware environment supporting college services.
• TCP/IP networking with experience in IT security and client/server application models Preferred Qualifications • Advanced knowledge and skills in Microsoft enterprise infrastructure technologies • Extensive knowledge of network connectivity, technologies, protocols, and security.
• Willingness to visit client locations.
• Strong desire to develop and grow in knowledge and experience.
• Candidate should have demonstrated experience in higher education • Should have an appreciation for and an understanding of a two-year college mission as well as workforce development.
